I find it incredible how Ian could write love songs that were so completely modest, like this one and "Wond'ring aloud" for example, and still evoke such strong emotions from people (like myself). I think it's because he manages to portray the special kind of friendship you can have with your loved one, without ever sugarcoating it or adding some negative bullshit drama to it. It's sincere. 99% of songs are about love, but of those 99%, only like a half percent seem to have any realism or even meaning.
