I really think this song is about war.
Girls "living inside a dream" and pretending nothing is wrong, because mostly is stereotypical that men go to war. And I know she mentioned summer, but for some reason it speaks to me as if its a boy, going out to war. Its "buzz cut season" anyway, all boys getting that military style buzzcut. And the "explosions on tv".
