Pain,loss,and sorrow are always going to be present. it never ends. "never goes away." but the person who killed themselves did. and the singer wants to know why

again you can't just throw away your life, but now all hope is gone, the rain that made him feel that way, the sun that should have showed the light in a bad situation is now GONE. and the thought of suicide can't be fought. its now their only option.
@littlejohn062 good analysis. I agree that it gives an impression of him feeling helpless after the loss of a friend (possibly because of suicide). It all points to him wishing that he could have helped, could have stopped them etc. etc. but in the end it was futile.
