IMO the best lines in the song - 'It might be easy to judge all that kindness/If you had grown accustomed to the darkness in the light'
= This line is talking about how you can go most of your life learning reasons to distrust people, constantly being let down, being so un-assured, hating yourself, blaming yourself for whatever darkness you find yourself in -- and so when you find the right person, it's easy to be weary and it's understandable to take some time before you can honestly let yourself believe that it's right. But as stated, 'any room with a view of other windows' will have a door that you can leave from, so for as long as you spend looking at other people's happiness, convincing yourself that you're never going to feel that way about someone, all you have to do is leave from the door and you'll be there too (it's up to YOU to realise what you've got with someone).
