This song clearly presents a court case in which a person tries to defend herself but it find guilty of the crimes commited.
Some particularities must be pointed, though.
In the lines "Ha! What case can you possibly present//to rip a man from his family, faith, and friends? " the judge show aggressivity towards the defendant. Then in the lines "The line of duty calls for enforcement of laws,//so you're our property now." it gets explicit that society is pressuring them for a conviction.
I think it is criticizing the hard life poor people have being dispised by society and them made to suffer whenever they commit an error (murder), whithout having any kind of help.
The convicted then tries to imply that reason can't understand feelings and motives "Through senses, what can we explain? Not joy, not guilt, not pain. Is love the same?".
Then in the second part, the judge says everybody is a murderer, some just don't realise their guilt. And that he is being convicted for actually directly realizing the real murderer ("We are all murderers, you see,
but you let taboo human chemistry blind your needs. ").
Also, the convicted thanks pain for keeping him on track. It's the only thing that still makes her want to do something.
Awesome lyrics, awesome song
