What a friend told me a while back was that this song is about a man who had an obsession over a woman he cannot have. He said the guitar solos infer that he ends up killing her (the solos get increasingly intense, the final guitar solo before the final verse especially feels like something sinister is happening). I guess the lyrics could point to this a little bit. I doubt this is entirely true, but its how I like to picture it every time I hear this song.
