As a spiritual person, I can see this song is referring to God. He's basically saying that he has sinned a lot and that has built the cell his in, also he indulges in what his body psychically wants which causes him to struggle. And when he steps on the precipice he doesnt see anything because he hasnt done anything important. SO he steps off and decides to follow God. Even if it means putting his pride aside:
"Whatever the cost
Whether it works out or not...
Ill follow you
lll follow you with my heart"
he knows that his way isnt working so now its time to do it God's way.
