I think it's about the submissive quality somebody has in their relationship where they come to believe that the person they're with loves them, though it's false. The only reason they think he/she loves them is because they turned their (sub)conscious mind into believing it, as a way of escaping from hurt and rejection. Their partner is probably secretly laughing behind their "innocent" smile, and it more often then not leads to failure as a relationship, because it's just not working out on a truthful level. It's a sarcastic way to fall in love; it's also a good way to die.
