"I always like to write a swinging waltz. Or in this case a 6/8 song. Annoying for drummers, great for the lyricist as it’s easier to rhyme in this meter. The lyric describes the life of a relationship, from it’s lustful commencement in the horny outdoors, through the travails of ill health (mirroring my own) through to a decision for the healthy partner not to leave his ill man alone. During the middle 8 the ill man dies, leaving the healthy partner with the task of scattering his love’s ashes. “Don’t write gay lyrics” said the record companies back in the ‘90s as “you’ll be marginalized.” Has anything changed I wonder? Didn’t stop me then, wont stop me now. Dan’s favourite song."
