I think this song is about a process of falling out of love but not necessarily because of the lack of love. I think that the love is still strong but they both stand on different principles and after different things. They may be a very different, very opposite individuals to begin with but fell madly in love and these differences are causing them to hurt each other - unintentionally;

I think shows that no matter how different they are they still need each other and can't seem to let go, making the relationship somewhat unhealthy.
