I don't feel that this is a sad song. So much depends on your perspecitve and state of mind though, doesn't it? On the contrary, I feel it to be quite happy and warm, just a meandering, albeit emotional, stroll through somewhere beautiful. Just listen to the sound of that 'instrument', the layering of different vibrating bells accompanying every note. Specifically, I find the opening and closing sequences to be no less than joyful crescendos.
