Talent show Lyrics

I think this song represents the idea of a band becoming famous and someone close to the band not being able to handle the sudden change in their fortunes and lifestyle. The singer is apologising to this loved one whether it be a girlfriend or other lover saying that he has changed with the fame and success he has gained through the band ('And you need to understand, I'm a brand new man and I played the cards the best I can' although he never intended it to be that way ('It could've been easy'). The singer feels some regret in how their relationship has changed due to his new found success hence the lyric- "Can't stop what I started And I'm never gonna forget it I took the pill took the poison I'm forever gonna regret it" and maybe the mentioning of pills is something to do with a battle with drugs or the feeling of being pressure into taking drugs, something I'm sure many musicians who become famous experience at some point. The song title- Talent Show is a reference to when Dog Is Dead first played together at their school talent show and perhaps this means the song is actually about the band itself. I absolutely love this song and think it's absolutely beautiful to listen to. Everytime I've met the band I've pestered them to play it live however they have persisted everytime I've ask them
