The song is both a reflection of how people treat one another nowadays and of heartache and fear.

The first verse she describes the mess that was left after he left. And she ponders if it was all worth it to begin with. (destroy the middle, it’s a waste of time, from the perfect start to the finish line)

The second verse describes the reasons why people mistreat one another, not being connected to each other anymore because we’ve all lost that innocence because we got hurt in love. And we’ll do anything to avoid getting hurt.

The third verse sounds to me as a sarcastic attack on that way of living. An attack on our generation. She is addressing the person who did this to her quite clearly, getting more personal after the ‘ you caused it’ part.

She’s afraid she’ll be one of many, as she is saying she’s afraid he’ll forget her. As if she was nothing, but this is not how she sees him. She valued/values him and clearly still misses him.

This I my interpretation, as I’m going through this.

My Interpretation

I think you did a great job in your interpretation. The song was given to me by an ex, and I was wondering if , he was trying to tell me something.

@Girlwithlove That's something that I would do, yes.. Thank you for the compliment. The song has helped me a great deal.

I agree, while adding that I believe the 'flood' part, might be about another woman. She was the flood/she caused the flood, that wrecked their home (relationship).
