I think this song is about a relationship where two lovers have decided to go their separate ways but everyone seems to think she's not over him yet and she isn't sure either. Both are also confused by the new status of their relationship and how they should behave around each other ('you don't know, is it fine to hold my hand?') and the song is her thinking about whether she wants to get back with him or vice versa ('Do you really want me back?') or not at all. The idea of being in the middle of the bed is a symbol of her new found singularity as she can now sleep in the middle of the bed cos she's not sharing it with him.
