I am a witness to both the writing of this song and it's meaning. The song was written in 1975 about Jose Feliciano and his then wife, Janna. The blind singer/songwriter was having great difficulty in his marriage. Joni became friends with Janna Feliciano and attended Jose's birthday party in September of 1975. She was there with John Guerin. I have photos of them there. Joni wrote the song from Janna's viewpoiint, but alas, there are two sides to every story. Joni is the best! And THIS is what this song is about.

@BillieCourtrig - out of curiosity, where in L.A. was the home? I would guess it would have been in the Hollywood Hills not far from where Joni lived in Laurel Canyon, at that time? Thanks again.

Few months after Jose and Janna divorced and thata was so bad for the Feliciano career, she as co-producer had the power to block new recordings and concerts, and so it happened at the end of the 70s. But also you know that it was she was very very difficult of character, many witnesses in Jose's career even in the most fortunate period they said this. Frank Sinatra once he was in concert with Feliciano obliged her to leave the room where they were preparing for the concert in Las Vegas.

Few months after Jose and Janna divorced and thata was so bad for the Feliciano career, she as co-producer had the power to block new recordings and concerts, and so it happened at the end of the 70s. But also you know that it was she was very very difficult of character, many witnesses in Jose's career even in the most fortunate period they said this. Frank Sinatra once he was in concert with Feliciano obliged her to leave the room where they were preparing for the concert in Las Vegas.
