Maybe its just me but it seems to me that the lyrics convey a couple's perspective on love vs. society's ideals on love. The photograph represents the image we perceive people to be or the couple to be in this matter. In the first stanza, the persona tries to defy the norm. How they'll be different from any couple or failed relationships. The second stanza shows how the norm tries to keep them at bay. The third stanza concludes how the social norms eventually become significant to the ones involved in a relationship. I was once in an open relationship, at first I felt so edgy but eventually the norms of being an exclusive relationship caught up with me. I always thought that love was too old for anyone to be understood or for anyone to claim but eventually our love grew old and it died. So neither of us never came back for more. :P
