Mmm ... I tend to view this as being that our lives are caustic (vitriolic) if we live a life that is 'normal' (well copying others). We need to be individuals and true to ourselves, otherwise we will be "low definition".
There tends to be a link between metals and chemistry through the lyrics on this album too (so not sure where that fits in, e.g. vitriolic, carbon, remanence (from Withered) etc.)
