He descends from his purpose in life because he was did something evil for his own benefit. He, as well as the rest of mankind, is mentally weak and he could not resist whatever tempted him to commit the atrocity. For this he has regret and he hates himself. He obtains a wardrobe of dark attire to represent his sadness, regret, and overall bad feelings about himself. Neither begging nor money can help him now. He can’t forget the night he committed the act, and this causes him to become self-destructive. He’s so distraught and the night he was tempted into evil haunts him for the rest of his life.
