A heretic, in general, is a person who does not conform to established, popularly accepted, beliefs and therefore is often viewed as an outcast from said group. This song seams to focus on the persecution of religious heretics but in today’s society, where we seek to categorize and label everyone and disassociate from and criticize differing opinions, this could easily be interpreted to apply to politics, social beliefs, etc. The line “Rising masses marching to find heretic blood” sums this up well.
In the religious sense, the line “My fate decided by their lies” relates perfectly to the different denominations of Christianity and the different “rules” associated with each.
The line “No trial, no case for reason” aligns with my thoughts on the above and how there is little to no basis for the various denomination’s “rules” within the Bible and historical contexts.
