For this interpretation, I assume that it is a male singing about a female, it could be the other way. I like to think it as this way, as Ryan is singing it and I am a guy who resonates with this song.

Exactly how it is (for me) and the young lady who shared my house 6 years ago, never engaged in relationship together (apart from being besties), I believe I’ve broken her heart being so stubborn and now it’s breaking mine as we live 1000’s of kilometres away and circumstance isn’t favourable for either at the moment, yet I do believe we are both just ‘saving the best for last’ and its her way of ‘making sure I’m sure’...
