I'm not sure of some of it, but I think the song is about an unrequited love, where the person tries to change himself to get another's attention, (by trimming his claws and mane), but she doesn't notice, and treats him the same, disregarding changes he's made.

My Interpretation

Unrequited love, simping, friendzone - all decent answers. I tear up when I hear

I trim my lion's claws and I... And I cut my mane And I would if I could But that woman treats me the same

He’s trying to change his true nature into a PICK ME for a woman who is playing games. At the end he learns he has to be himself and confront her with confidence and authenticity NOTE - there is nothing in the song about her loving him back at the end?
