It seems like Davey's painting a nostalgic picture of the memory of being 17.
The heart is so much more susceptable to the affects of love and heatbreak when you are that age - going up and down in a rollercoaster of emotions. Love is such a dangerous feeling then because it can be so easily shattered and most don't have the emotional tools in which to deal with it.
I think this song is about feeling nostalgic for that kind of emotional vulnerability and the excitement and extremes of emotion it inspires and almost sad because, you know you can never feel quite like that agiain
@TheJamesShow I'm a little late on this, but I absolutely agree. That's the feeling I had when I first listened to it. It's actually quite difficult for me to listen to it for that reason. I think most of our lives were better when we were 17.:)
