Well the lyrics are very bold. The first verse to me is saying that life isnt what it should be, it dark, lonely and generally just shit. But the chorus is saying that false hope given by god is the problem. He feels like he was promised a good, joyful life but instead ended up having a crap one. As a protestant myself, I can totally relate to the lyrics. I believe in a god but not the one religion gives a image of. I wont get help in my life by a god, Praying shouldn't be a "God help me get rich" type thing. So I am happy that I realized this very early on and didn't go on into my life with false hope.
