the good thing about this song is that if you hate the lyrics, you can barely make them out. Except for the monologue, haha, that's kind of inescapable.

I used to be the "angsty rebel chick" and am unfortunately pretty much the opposite now, but that doesn't affect my opinion of this song.
M83 didn't intend at all to seem original or poetic with this song- it is 100% from the perspective of the angsty rebel chick, who realizes she's a cliche. It makes her more upset and more indifferent. M83 is unembarrassed of their cheesiness for the sake of the sweet angsty rebel chick. Angsty rebel chicks are almost always very sweet.
