Peter Noone (who covered Oh! You Pretty Things in 1971 before Hunky Dory was released) said in an interview with Blitz magazine in 1986: "Then I recorded Right On, Mother. It was a great record. But there was no way it was going to get on the radio at that time. The song was about David (Bowie), who was telling his mother that he had finally fallen in love with a woman! It was probably a little bit ahead of its time. [...] I never did any more of David Bowie's song after Right On, Mother. I guess he wanted to save all of the songs for himself. Smart boy!"
