The song is about a relationship ending in a bad place.
-In the beginning:
You can see that he's hurting.
Everything he sees now, reminds him of the breakup. Everything he sees reminds him of her.
Time passes and he wishes he knew HOW to get over her. He wishes he knew how to leave it all behind. She did and now all that's left for him are the memories, the shadows.
He knows he needs to get away from the memories.
