This song was actually directed to all of their fans who wouldn't stop hounding them about the meaning of life. After "In Search Of The Lost Chord" people started having experiences using psychedelics and started believing the Moody Blues knew what it was all about, like they held the key. The end result was that everyone that was doing drugs and ran into the Moody Blues would not leave them alone about what they knew.

Eventually, they tired of this and recorded this song as a way to tell their fans that they, like them, were in the same place, just searching and having experiences. Some of them have websites and, for instance, on Justin's site, he specifically requests you keep your questions to things about a performance or gear or what was the thought in some musical phrases. He DOES NOT want to be asked about the whole God thing as far as the band was concerned.

Any music can take you anywhere, and like they said, thinking is the best way to travel. I have been a guitarist for over 50 years and have those moments when I am in the river, but you always come out. After all, like Firesign Theater said, "How Can You Be In Two Places At Once When You're Not Anywhere At All"?

@Daddyo1 Hmmm, not exactly, I saw an interview with Lodge in a M. B. documentary where he said he wrote it on the heels of an encounter with a group of fans who wanted him to pilot the space ship leaving later that week, of course that's when Lodge replied to them the title of this song, whereupon he went in & immediately penned this tune.
