The majority of Soundtracks for the Blind's content was inspired by the death of Gira's father in 1990. Gira's father is the man talking about losing his eyesight on "How They Suffer".

This song is about the helplessness one feels after losing a loved one. The "prisoner in your skull", showing you how to use the fork, how to turn on the water, etc. is the loved one that has passed away. You find yourself needing their help/guidance with the simplest things, things you once thought you knew how to do yourself. Very chilling song.
