So for me this song is about a girl who was "brought up right," loved and respected, appropriately sheltered and shown manners and niceties. The singer admires her deeply for this. He had fun with her and enjoyed being with her and playing in her perfect world, but for him that was all it was. He knew he didn't quite belong there. I think he sees her as naive. Not insensitive or selfish, just that from her perfect sheltered perspective she could never truly "see" and understand him and his imperfections. Didn't diminish his admiration for her though. Love this song right now! But I seem to see it as a movie montage from the 70s :-).
