I first loved this song just for its sound--an interesting balance of hard and soft. But I loved it again for its lyrics. I think this song is about those who search for meaning in their lives and cannot find it, thus their lives are "hollow". It gets easy to give up, as the speaker seems to feel at the beginning. It's no wonder then, as the lyrics state, why people turn to religion to create meaning for themselves ("Is there ever any wonder why we look to the sky? Search in vain, asking 'why?' All alone, where is God? Looking down... We don’t know"). It may even be in the point of view of someone suicidal. It can be difficult to stay positive when the world is so greedy ("Always we're taking...") and life is so fragile and temporary ("Ripping apart all these things that I've tried to stop falling all this time"), that it may be better to just give up ("Death may come, peace I have found").
