I think it's about the contradiction of the middle-class, who try their best to conform to the "American dream," but (according to actual studies!!!) are also the one's that participate in sexual deviance, S&M sex precisely. They are broken, and this is why they behave like this. They are broken because they are superficial conformists on the outside, which causes an emptiness inside and a ravishing desire for control, internally, via sex. Pretty much exactly like what is portrayed in the movie "American Psycho."
