Frankly, I think this song is about being in high school (or most social situations where people have a bad liking towards you) and not fitting in and just waiting to get home already.
The first verse is like about the people who complain about their lives in high schools even though they're the super popular people with friends and don't get made fun of and stuff, and Chris would gladly rather be them when he hears them complain. He's always sitting in the back of the room or trying to get away by using the bathroom (god knows in high school I spent 30 minutes of class just wandering the halls or sitting in the handicap stall to waste time and avoid the people I dislike) or wandering the halls, because he's just so out of place and doesn't fit in. He wants to fit in so he tries to say something funny or clever but everybody just makes fun of him more for that, not even on the fact that it was funny or not, but just because they don't like him. I know that one for sure.
The chorus is kind of just about his way to get through the day. Tapping his feet to his heartbeat or to a good song stuck in his head to pass the time, waiting to get home and watch some good shows on television alone because that's his escape at home and that's what he enjoys doing. But even still, he'd like to just have a friend to talk to.
The second verse is kind of about not necessarily social anxiety, but about what people think about him and how it affects him so. What is he expected to be? Should he even speak? Should he pretend to be someone he's not? He just wants to be away from them; be home, or anywhere else, really. If he could, he wouldn't have to tell them the things he feels the urge to say.
The bridge is pretty explanatory.
Yeah, I relate to this song so well. Just how I felt in school. Love these guys.
