The first part of the song chronicles the building of a strong family and a home, from birth up to the best years of someone's life. At this point in the song, that person is so content that they never want to leave. But at some point in everyone's life, they grow tired of the status quo and begin to "outgrow" their home. This leads to conflict and "burdens" from friends and family members who are going down a different path. At some point, that person may decide that enough is enough, that there's too many conflicts and too many differences that need to be resolved, and that it's time to move away and wipe the slate clean. That person keeps on going further to justify their desire to leave until they realize that the risk in leaving is too great and they stay to work things out with family and friends.

As for the chorus, well, here's where I frame the explanation in a device that might not intended by Tom, but explains it decently anyway. The "I believe that every broken bone is meant to be" part sounds like one of those adages that your parents would repeat to keep the family together in times of difficulty. The "and I see the things that I pretend that I don't see" part is the equal but opposite force that explains how hard it is to put away the differences. The person keeps repeating this adage and tries to "not see" the sources of conflict, but they're ultimately inescapable. The contrast between the two is reflected in the events of the song, because this person is struggling between staying to try and work things out and leaving to start over. Ultimately, the person appears to choose staying home and working things out. Not sure if Tomas is saying it's a good or bad thing, but probably neither as it ends no further than the person's decision to stay.

My Interpretation

I agree with you, but I think it is intended as a good thing because of the second verse. In the second it seems to be implied that it's necessary to leave your hometown and your friends to sow your seeds and create your own life. You'll break a lot of peoples hearts in the process, but hopefully they'll all understand and accept you leaving. If you apply that to the first verse, I think he's saying that the process of coming head to head with the tension and pain of leaving your family and finally accepting that you really...
