I think this song is simply about a relationship, probably in the early stages of one, where you are really infatuated with someone but you run into a few speed bumps that may make you or your partner question whether it can last. Despite this, you are pleading for the other not to give up ("Don't let go, I need you to hang around")
"so broke" - emotionally broken (from whatever issue is causing the problem)
"foolishly in love" - not necessarily actually foolish, just some might think it foolish to be "in love" this early on or despite the issues
"What did I learn? That it's not that easy" - relationships are hard
"when you get burned, then go on burning loud" - not completely sure what this means - could be a couple of things...but I think it more likely means that when you get hurt, it hurts a lot and someone can really tell that you are hurt (because you are "burning loud", i.e. "wearing it on your sleeve")
TL;DR - Love is hard, but I want to make this thing work
