No recent comments. Does that means no one is listening? Or just nothing to say? I love this song. I love this whole album! And I think everyone's comments are quite valid. After all, we all interpret the world through our own filters, and each of us is a composite of all we've ever seen, heard, said, or done. So, while I can see the references pointing to internet use, I also see what I consider to be typical Bowie ambiguity. Maybe it's because I belong to the same generation. But I remember a time before the internet (gasp! blasphemy!) when we used to lie out under the stars at night and try to pick out which ones were artificial. We'd watch the launches on tv, and then try to track them, like Telstar, for instance. The sky wasn't so full of our junk back then, and the man-made satellites moved differently than the stars and planets. Although sometimes we saw things we couldn't identify.... As as artist, I know that we don't always create with our conscious minds. Once someone asked me about the symbolism in one of my works, and I was surprised to see it myself. It was obvious, but unconscious when I was doing it. So probably Bowie's meanings are as veiled to him as they are to us. Or maybe he just enjoys watching us monkeys trying to puzzle out what goes on is his superior mind. Whatever he meant, I'm glad he created it, and I wish there were more like it.
