A Certain Someone is one of the most confusing Sundays songs I've come across, but I'll attempt to explain my interpretation.
I'm probably way of base, but to me it's about initially striking out on your own. There's a certain amount of self-centeredness that comes with that mindset, wanting to prove yourself to the world, you peers, and finally your family. With independence comes a greater sense of ownership:
"If I could have anything in the world for free
I wouldn't share it with anyone else but me"
However eventually, we all find that "A Certain Someone" who changes our perspective a bit:
"Yeah, if I could have anything in the world for free
I wouldn't share it with anyone else but me
Except perhaps a certain someone"
The lyric "You're too twisted by half, but that's far enough" is hard to discern, as it could mean a multitude of things. In my opinion, it's the clashing between two ideas, whether or not to stay aloof and single, or to settle down and be in a relationship.
The remaining lyrics seem to pertain to the potential out comes of being in a relationship. One is the ominous "Oh, I'd be careful living in a block of flats
And I never take the lift to the top"
For me, I remember living in an apartment complex and having a lot of adult couples upstairs making noise and arguing all the time, and I would do my best to avoid.
The other outcome is just being surprised of things working out:
"I'll never believe what we've found
We figured it out, we figured it out
We lived in a house, in a cold room"
As I said above, it's a confusing song and could mean anything! Catchy tune nonetheless.
