Secondly, I feel that he's not really talking to a specific person, but rather society in general. It's not a love song, but a song about growing up and taking on responsibilities. He knows that he has to grow up, he sees it's coming towards him, and he's kind of frightened. He's being up front in saying that he won't be able to do everything perfectly, so don't expect that of him. Even if what he does isn't perfect, he wants to do things on his own (not in the sense that he pushes everyone away, but in the sense that whatever he does, it's from him- no one else).
All in all this song is very beautiful and simple and I love it! :}
