It's about the power of Nuclear weapons. The original Manhattan Project used a Gun-style trigger to cause the detonation ushering in the era of nuclear weapons. Also the evolution of weapons came from bigger and better gun to the atomic bomb in WW2. Thus the Atomic Bomb was born of the Gun. Many verses describe atomic fire from the blasts. Built of steel, was near impossible to stop. It was an unguided bomb, therefore "shit for brains". It's only job was to kill. and it killed anyone in its blast, regardless of race or creed. It ended many lives and futures.

The superhero part is fairly simple too. Just listen to conversations. People quickly think of the bomb when they think of quick destruction and power; "..we should just nuke the place....". It ended the war, made nations into superpowers. It's also reflected in video games. Atomic weapons are superheroes.

Song Meaning

@echoctrl Pretty much the conclusion I came to as well. I think the last verse, "All are equal, no discrimination. Son of a Gun, a simple equation. Son of a Gun, the master of fate, bows to no god, kingdom or state" really paints a chilling picture of what an indiscriminate killer "Son of a Gun" is, and that fits in perfectly with the nuclear power interpretation to me.
