That is one hell of a song. What a wonderful melody. One would expect no less from Queens of the Stone Age. I haven't figured out what it is yet but the last lyrics of the third line are incorrect. I'll see if I can decipher them later if someone else doesn't beat me to it.
I'm about to check your lyrics now. All of the other lyric sites seem to have an alternate but equally wrong version.

Just checked Dolemite67 and yes I believe you are right. The lyrics make more sense as you had written them. The reference to a 'race' didn't make any sense against the other lyrics in the verse. Nice one. It's a great song and I like to sing QOTSA songs as I love the vocal work and working out the harmonies. I kept dropping that line as I knew it was right. Now I can sing my head off.lol...

Great song, yeah. Wish his enounciation was clearer in that verse, though. haha

As some have stated elsewhere, it seems like a desert song with this "religious" subtext. But that's it. I still haven't worked out what I think the general message of the song is.

I like the obvious analogies in the second verse, about being a small part on the Earth and all.

And I knew that third line was wrong, I even thought it could have been "...until erase, forgive, forgot", but I can't unhear "mental erase"! Thanks for helping out, I believe it's pretty...

I'm pretty sure you're right about the third line being off. Maybe something like:
