Apparently Kate wrote it after seeing "Blood and Roses" aka "Et Mourir de Plaisir" which is a 1960s French film adaptation of Joseph Sheridan LeFanu's "Carmilla", one of the earliest vampire gothic novels. Carmilla is the main character, a vampire who falls in love with her victim who is a young girl. This seems to be from the girl's point of view.
