This song posits the theory that our individual, subjective perspectives of reality constitute individual, subjective worlds. As Conrad said, "We live as we dream, alone." The Scatman believes that his world, "Scatman's World," is superior to the worlds experienced by his listeners. The listeners are imprisoned by their own perspectives and are thus unable to experience the superior state that is Scatman's World. But the Scatman has a solution, "fantasy." If there is no way for the listeners to directly enter Scatman's World (and there isn't), then they must recreate Scatman's world from inside their own consciousnesses through the power of imagination. "Scatman's World," the song, is an aid in this process, as in the final two verses, Scatman John gives instruction on interior world building. If the listeners follow these instructions correctly, then "the lie" that was their own worlds will have been effectively replaced by the Scatman's truth.
