I know there are a lot of good points of view here but mine personally is that it's about a young man who is anxious about having his first time with an escort in a car. I just picture it that way, even though it could easily be a promiscuous woman who just sleeps around for whatever reason. Her way of life is fast and straight to the point, always in a hurry, truly like a little red corvette. The encounters she has are just as fast, to which Prince rebuttals that she needs something constant in her life.
"See you're the kind of person who believes in making out once" would definitely adhere to the profession of a call girl. They're not supposed to catch feelings whatsoever or it hinders their ability to "work".
"Trojans and some of 'em used"
This metaphor is obviously talking about rubbers...seems a bit odd that a girl would keep used condoms unless she had some sort of complex regarding various men she slept with. I don't picture it that way. They must have been recent, implying she was with another man before taking a ride with him.
"Baby have you got enough gas" reads to me personally like "Can you afford my affections?" or "Can you last long enough?". I particularly view the "What have I got to lose" line very literally as in he wants to have his first sexual experience and the previous lines just sound as if he is buying it from her and insecure about her challenge.
The song just FEELS to me like this guy is trying to passionately reach out to her in a way nobody else has, to get past her occupational obligations. By trying to "tame [her] little red love machine", he's trying to take control over what happens, doesn't want her to leave, wants to give her something she hasn't experienced... a love "that's gonna last".
That's just my take on it and how I feel while listening to LRC.
