Had to listen twice to really get it. Late April of 1995 was when the Oklahoma City Bombing occurred.
So these kids stole a cow from one of their ex-girlfriends' dad, and because they were high and drunk, got paranoid and made a run for Mexico. They stopped just over the Kansas state line (not how you get to Mexico, btw--stupid kids) because the narrator got sick, and they were under suspicion from the FBI for a moment before the FBI realized they were just drunk stoned kids and moved on.
What a great story told from an interesting point of view. Great song. REK is such a fantastic story teller.
