Youth Lyrics

I think it is about the tragedy of loosing a love, and how it all fits in to the journey of growing from child to adolescence, along with other habits associated with a person's youthful day; smoking, drinking, drugs maybe.

I think the lines, "if you're in love/still bleeding/breathing, you're the lucky ones" are incredibly powerful and are about the fact that if you are able to bleed, to feel pain (physically, emotionally), whatever it may be, then you are lucky because at least you are still can! Some people make the transition from child to adult, with "battle scars", lost relationships, addictions- evidence of other life altering events.

Mostly though, i think it is about everything in life becoming too much, resulting in a incredibly heartbreaking, beautiful, sad and frustrating break down where, "you caused it" is repeated. Then she sings the last two verses and it's so emotional!. Then "you caused it" is repeated again- a constant shift between sad and angry, fluctuating the way teen hormones do.

This song however could be about something completely different, and perhaps i'm looking into it too much, but this is the little story that floats about my head when i listen to it....

My Opinion

your interpretation is wonderful!
