'The Blue Mask', despite its thrashing, frustrated, existentially morbid title-track, is one of the most beautiful, blissful and heartfelt albums ever cut by anyone, and is essential listening for anyone who wants a glimpse of 'the real Lou Reed', in the same way that 'Blood on the Tracks' offers a glimpse of 'the real Bob Dylan', or 'Tunnel of Love' ditto 'the real Bruce Springsteen'.
