Personally I see it that it is a war within himself, that ends in nothingness. An empty feeling in himself, and he looks in a mirror, and what he has become terrifies him. He has become a person who takes what he can, when he can, and while he can. He has become as hopeless as a pebble in a can being kicked down the street.
