To me this song’s about the act of carrying on living after the devastation of losing a loved one and with the sudden severing of all contact with that person, the emotional wasteland that’s left and the deep yearning to make contact with that person again.
Left in the same walls.. he’s wondering if the dead survive in some form and can still see those left alive.
Left on long wall could be a metaphor for how isolated he feels from the world in his grief and the next line an acknowledgement of the support offered by those around him.
