I recently had a thought about this song and wondered if anyone else had ever thought this. Even though he says "We" a lot, I think the twist to this song is that he's alone in the whole thing. It's the "I stay up alone" line at the end that really made me realize this.

It definitely makes the song that much lonlier. Things like "I was hoping I'd go home with someone else" and "down in the dregs of yesterday" instead of starting his day.
