I don't think this is about a troubled relationship, either. The way I've interpreted this song is it's about the start of something new, a new relationship yes. However, badutahboy, I agree with you to an extent. This is a girl he can connect with, that he cares about. When he's with her he's happy, and he's "fellin' sublime" but he's not used to being in a real relationship but he's willing to give her a chance he just doesn't know how to let himself get in the way of this. Even though he didn't trust himself "like sugar and cyanide, these walls are gonna collide" he still is willing to give himself to her. But he needs her to "go slow, let me hide somewhere I know." And maybe, after the seed grows they can be in a good relationship. Its just about him overcoming his fear of a real relationship.
When my ex boyfriend first listened to this song was before we were dating, and this was the song that helped push him into actually giving me a chance. It became "our song" because this explains so much about him. He didn't want to give me a chance, because he was afraid of a relationship (and I honestly believe he still is) but I was the girl to put myself out there and give myself to him, making it his decision.
It's truely a great song, and I wish I could listen to it more often.
