Lewis' comments:
"This is one of the older songs off of The Common Cure. I wrote it almost four years before recording the album. One day, about a week before pre-production, I found an old recording of it. For kicks, I rerecorded it as is, and sent it to my producer. This and "Yes", and "Call it As You Will" were last minute add-ons. ("Yes" wasn't written until about a week before choosing the songs to track.)
As far as it's meaning, the song in a nutshell is just a giant 'what if?'.
I had been talking to this guy for a while, but both of us were too stubborn to admit we had feelings for each other or apologize. I don't even remember what the fight was about. Something trivial, no doubt. I was having a difficult time putting how I felt into words, so I wrote a song. This is one of few that are directly caused by AND about a specific event."
